It Only Takes One Person to Hear Your Message

Jody Maberry Show Episode 233 It Only takes one person

“You don’t need a crowd. You just need one person to hear what you have to say.”

In 2019 Vincent Pugliese and I were hanging out at Podcast Movement. I shared a story with him that he then retold on his podcast, Total Life Freedom. The story was mine, but hearing it through Vincent’s voice reminded me just how impactful one connection can be.

Back in 2014, I launched the Park Leader Show. At the time, I didn’t know who was listening, or if anyone was. Like many of us who create, I showed up week after week, trusting the work mattered even if the results weren’t always obvious. Fast forward, and one unknown listener from Arkansas ended up inviting me to speak at the national conference for all 50 state park directors. That invitation led to me sharing a stage with the governor of Arkansas and a Walmart executive. All because one person heard something that resonated.

Vincent and I were talking about this at Podcast Movement, and it tied into the premise of his upcoming book about the power of connection and showing up consistently. If I had stayed quiet or convinced myself my voice didn’t matter, that door would’ve never opened. That moment reminded both of us that consistency matters. Don’t get hung up on how many people respond. Just be ready when the right person listens.

So, if you’re creating, speaking, writing, or leading, and you’re wondering if it’s worth it, keep going. You never know what kind of ripple effect your voice might cause.

Because sometimes, it only takes one person to change everything.
