Recapping the Creating Magic Mastermind
“You absolutely have to understand why we’re all here, who we’re serving, what’s the important role that we’re serving in someone else’s life, and then how we’re connecting, communicating with each other.”
Fresh off his second mastermind experience with us, David Hancock, founder of Morgan James Publishing, shares why he returned and how these events continue to deliver fresh insights and encouragement. We explore several key takeaways from the mastermind, including some of our favorite bits of wisdom shared by Lee Cockerell and guest speaker Chris Trout.
One of the standout topics of conversation throughout the event was the importance of a clear organizational culture and inclusion in leadership. Lee Cockerell’s experiences as an executive at Disney gave us all an incredible perspective around the collaboration it takes for impactful creativity and innovation. He shared that much of that is the result of a shift in the hiring landscape. It’s no longer just about what candidates can do for us. It’s about showing candidates what’s in it for them, which has the ability to strengthen company culture. Being intentional in making sure culture makes it to the front line ensures everyone understands how we operate and serve. It gives a sense of ownership among teams, which lets them to feel invested in and valued.
There was also a lot of discussion that centered around testing boundaries. Lee caught us all off guard when he encouraged us to do things to test your authority. He has a way of noticing when people are giving themselves permission to take the easy way out. Knowing the Mastermind brings people with that leadership drive, this statement is his way of giving permission to everyone to create a culture of action. He is setting the example on how we can encourage our team members to take initiative and innovate without the fear of stepping on toes.
Our guest speaker, Chris Trout, added another layer by emphasizing “people support what they helped create.” When employees are involved in shaping initiatives, they take ownership and pride in their work. That statement also highlights the spirit of the mastermind. They are about collaboration and shared responsibility. Creating Magic Masterminds are where diverse individuals with a shared purpose come together to create magical transformations at work and in their life.
The consistent feedback about the Creating Magic Mastermind is that they challenge everyone to stretch beyond comfort zones, turning potential roadblocks into stepping stones. It’s a great way to show creating an environment where every participant can thrive doesn’t take more than giving people a seat at the table. The lessons we learn together are invaluable.
I know I always say this, but this Creating Magic Mastermind may have been the best yet. From highlighting the importance of pushing company culture to the front line to embracing risk and testing authority, there was no shortage on strategies that can help you and your organization thrive. Make sure to join us at the next event so you can see for yourself what we mean when we say that everyone around the table is truly the best part.
