Five Things I Remind Myself Every Day

“What does this make possible?”
Sometimes the best business advice has nothing to do with business. This episode isn’t about business strategies or productivity hacks. It’s personal. After losing my Uncle Jim, I wasn’t in the mindset to talk shop. However, I still want to show up and share something meaningful. One of the things I haven’t shared much about before are five quotes I keep pinned above my desk. These quotes that keep me grounded, focused, and moving forward.
Each quote has a purpose. “Rest is a weapon” reminds me that slowing down is strategic. “What does this make possible?” helps me reframe challenges. “Do the one thing” reminds me not to chase too many projects at once. “What’s it for?” helps me cut distractions. These cards are short by design—quick hits of clarity that redirect me when I lose focus.
And this week, I made a change. I retired “I can, and I will” and replaced it with a powerful new addition: “Do your best and forgive yourself.”
This quote, from Admiral Payne (shared by Dan Cockerell), has stayed on my mind since Mike Simmons brought it up in our last episode. Dan even joins this one to share what the quote meant to him growing up in the Cockerell family. Jeff Noel also joins to share his guiding quotes, like “Carpe Diem” and “The long way is the shortcut.”
These quotes aren’t just words. They’re reminders that help me think better, focus more, and take care of what matters. After you listen to this episode, go out and collect your own quotes to remind yourself of each day.
