Creating an Audio Experience
One of Rick’s questions brought up an idea that has lingered in my mind. Could an audio format capture the essence of travel, much like a video? As we reminisce about the nostalgia of radio broadcasts, we talk about the possibility of creating mental pictures with just sound and imagination. It’s like listening to a baseball game on the radio. You don’t see it, but the description of the game makes you feel like you’re there. In audio experiences every word has the opportunity to create its own unique visual story.
Rick also challenged me with a question about confronting intimidating subjects. It made me think about a long-standing podcast concept I’ve shelved due to its demanding nature. The idea revolves around the reality show Survivor. It reminds me of my early days as a park ranger and the connection it holds with my wife. The show feels like a daunting commitment, but one that continues to intrigue me.
This episode was a win for Rick. Quite literally if we are counting points for who has been on more, he or his brother, Bob. To be fair, I also won because of the way Rick’s questions got me thinking about ideas such as the potential audio experiences. There is a transformative power of sound that can evoke emotion, memory, and wonder. The potential is immense, echoing Rick’s belief in the magic of description over visualization.
