Be You Times Two

Jody Maberry Show Episode 333 Be You Times Two

“The idea of the alter ego can be really powerful to plus up so that you can genuinely connect and help.”

Recently a wonderful guest and friend, Lauren Gaggioli, launched a new podcast called the Digital Entrepreneur Toolkit. After having her on the show a couple of times, I was honored to be one of the first guests on her new show. It’s not often I get the chance to dive into topics I normally don’t have the time to talk about. I liked it so much I asked Lauren if I could share that interview with you as an episode of the Jody Maberry show.

We dive into the essence of “Be You Times Two,” exploring how doubling down on your authentic self can lead to remarkable transformations. For years, I found myself torn between finance roles, while also feeling a draw to a more meaningful career. It wasn’t until a conversation during a family event that I decided to fully commit to becoming a park ranger. This decision wasn’t just about switching jobs; it was about cutting off other paths to pursue my passion wholeheartedly.

Lauren Gaggioli does such a wonderful job leading a reflective conversation. We talk about the nuances of making decisions with grit and loyalty and how these shape our entrepreneurial journeys. It’s always fun having time for some humorous anecdotes, like my granny’s competitive spirit in Skip-Bo. She’s an example of some of the influential figures in our lives who keep us accountable. Plus, we talk about the alter egos we embrace to thrive in our professional lives and the art of storytelling that’s crucial for impactful podcasting.

Some of the other highlights include:

  • The Power of Grit: Understanding the dual nature of grit is really important. Learning through difficult experiences can lead you on a resilient path to success. It’s not just about pushing through, but about growing through.
  • Decisions and Loyalty: Making decisions based on personal loyalty rather than situational suitability can lead to more mistakes. When daily thoughts about a situation turn negative, it’s crucial to reassess and make necessary changes. Loyalty is a wonderful trait, but it should be balanced with pragmatism.
  • Authenticity in Storytelling: Whether as a park ranger giving interpretive talks or now as a podcaster, storytelling has been at the heart of my journey. The S.W.A.P framework, Story, Why it matters, Action, and Provoke, aims to engage, educate, and inspire audiences to take meaningful actions in their own lives.

With all of that said, I will continue to do my best to align my work with my ‘zone of genius.’ It’s about excelling in what truly resonates with you.  And yes, embracing an alter ego (hello, Sugar Jay!). Authenticity meets a plussed-up version of oneself. Whether it’s through episodes of The Jody Maberry Show or casual chats with Lauren Gaggioli, my journey has focused on  authenticity and connection. It’s safe to say that is what keeps me grounded and motivated.
