Podcasting for Authors
Thank you for joining me for Podcasting for Authors. Below you will find a list of all of the equipment I had with me. You can find alternatives to this on sites like Graham Slee HiFi, but these are good starting points when considering your setup.
Podcast Equipment
Audio Technica ATR2100 – This is the microphone I use 98% of the time. The perfect microphone for mobile podcast recording. I use this most of the time at home as well. You will want 2 if you are going to record in-person interviews.
Foam Ball Windscreen – This will keep you and your guest from popping Ps and cut down on wind and breath noises. Get 2 if you are getting 2 microphones.
TriPod Microphone Stand – Forget the plastic microphone stands the ATR2100 comes with. These sturdy stands will hold up to travel and look great. Get 2 of them if you will be traveling with two microphones.
Microphone Stand Extender – These will make your stands taller and more comfortable to use for you and your guest. Get 2 if you are getting 2 microphone stands.
Zoom H5 Portable Recorder – Small, portable, and powerful. This will record audio directly onto an SD card. You can record directly into your computer with the software I mentioned. But this recorder is ideal to record in-person interviews or when you are on the road.
Eagle Creek Large Bag – Trust me. You want this. I keep the Zoom H5 and all cables in this bag.
Eagle Creek Medium Bag – Yes, you want this one, too. This is where I keep microphones and spare batteries.
Podcast Audio File Hosting
Libsyn – Your audio files and episodes have to live somewhere. Libsyn is what I recommend. Use the code MAGIC to get the rest of this month and all of next month free.
Software
Audacity – This free software is what I use to record to my laptop as well as edit my episodes.
Auphonic – To make the episode sound great, I use Auphonic as the last step in production if I edit an episode myself.
Transcription
GoTranscript.com – If you are going to repurpose your podcast episodes to make additional content, you will need transcriptions.
Build an Email List
ConvertKit – I talked about using a podcast to build an email list. ConvertKit is the email list building platform I use.
